The market for data protection is exploding. Every business, from small SMBs to large enterprises, is facing critical threats from ransomware, strict compliance laws, and simple hardware failure. They are all desperately seeking a secure, reliable, and affordable backup solution. This is the perfect opportunity for you to move from a simple reseller to a high-profit service provider. By offering your own BaaS (Backup-as-a-Service), you can build a stable, high-margin, recurring revenue business that your clients will depend on.
You use software like TrueNAS to create separate, secure storage pools, or Veeam and Acronis which are designed for multi-tenancy, giving each client their own secure portal.
You can provide access however you like. Common methods include FTP/SFTP, NFS, SMB, or through a dedicated software agent (like Acronis or Veeam) that you provide to your client.
Public cloud has two costs: storage and egress. Storing data is cheap, but restoring it is incredibly expensive (egress fees). With our dedicated servers, you pay one flat monthly fee, allowing you to offer both storage and restores for a predictable, low price.
RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) is a technology that combines multiple hard drives to work as one. It's used for two main goals: increasing performance (speed) or creating redundancy (data protection). For a backup server, redundancy is critical. If one hard drive in your array fails, your clients' data remains 100% safe because a copy (or 'parity') exists on the other drives. At ServerMO, we offer powerful software RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 for free, allowing you to configure your server for maximum speed (RAID 0), high-reliability (RAID 1/10), or a balance of both (RAID 5/10) to protect your clients' valuable data.
Yes. We offer servers with multiple empty, hot-swappable drive bays. You can start with 4 drives and easily add more as your client base grows, allowing you to "pay as you grow."
You have full root access. You can install standard OS like Ubuntu/CentOS, Windows Server, or specialized free OS like TrueNAS CORE (formerly FreeNAS) to build a powerful enterprise-grade NAS.
Absolutely. Our servers are perfect for MSPs wanting to build their own Veeam Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP) platform. You get full root access, flat-rate bandwidth (no egress fees), and the high-capacity hardware to create a profitable Veeam repository for your clients.
You use a multi-layered strategy. First, our free DDoS protection shields your server from network-level attacks. Second, security is in your control. We recommend installing an OS like TrueNAS which supports "immutable" snapshots (so backups can't be deleted or encrypted by attackers). Finally, you should use network isolation and firewall rules to ensure the backup server is only accessible from your or your clients' trusted IP addresses.
It depends on your business goal. HDDs offer the lowest cost-per-TB and are perfect for mass archival ("cold storage"). NVMe/SSDs are much faster and are ideal for high-speed "hot storage" or for running the OS and backup software, ensuring instant restores (low RTO). Many of our MSP clients use a hybrid model.
A 1Gbps port is great for starting out and for archival backups. However, for a high-performance BaaS platform, we highly recommend a 10Gbps port. This allows you to back up dozens of clients simultaneously and, more importantly, perform high-speed restores for disaster recovery.
