The building at 274 Brannan Street in San Francisco, known as Fortress SF1, is a mission-critical facility designed to house and protect essential data center assets and connectivity for various Cloud Providers. This state-of-the-art data center encompasses 105,225 rentable square feet, with six stories above grade and one below grade. Originally built in 1923, the building underwent significant renovations in 1984, a seismic upgrade in 1995, and further improvements with the construction of Fortress SF1 in 2011 and renovations in 2016.

Fortress SF1 at 274 Brannan Street is designed to provide 100% performance and accessibility for its customers' critical IT assets and connectivity needs. The facility highlights the latency benefits of its Edge physical location in the SOMA District of Downtown San Francisco and offers personal support to both prospective and existing customers. It provides robust connections, both physical and virtual, from the core of numerous carrier networks inside its Edge MMR/Data Center to partner-enabled capabilities such as Edge, 5G, and Cloud services. This ensures that customers receive the best of all potential services, including 5G-enabled, Edge computing, direct Cloud onboarding (Public/Private/Hybrid), mission-critical compliant colocation, and superior service.

The building is designed to support a substantial floor load of up to 200 pounds per square foot. It incorporates advanced safety features, including an IBIS Building Management System, biometric access controls, and extensive CCTV monitoring handled by Kantech with additional security cameras by Samsung. The facility's power is reliably supplied by PG&E via two modern 4,000-amp 270/480 volt, 3-phase transformers located on the Brannan Street side, compliant with all recent electrical standards. For emergencies, the power infrastructure includes a 5 MW generator system with N+1 redundancy, which comprises generators of different capacities (one 2 MW, one 1.5 MW, one 750 kW, and two 350 kW, all from Caterpillar), fueled by an 8,000-gallon underground tank that provides power continuity for up to 72 hours.

The facility employs advanced UPS technology with Lithium Ion batteries from N1C, ranging from 1 kVA to 10 kVA in various configurations, capable of handling either 120V or 208V. These UPS units boast a small footprint, high energy density, tolerance to heat, and environmental sustainability, all backed by a lifetime warranty. Climate control is ensured by a sophisticated Liebert® dry cooling system and Liebert® In-Row Cooling CPVT units, augmented by a DataClean hot aisle containment setup and a system that introduces fresh air for more efficient cooling. Fire safety is managed with a robust, double interlock dry-pipe pre-action system, safeguarding the facility against fire risks.

Telecommunication fiber carriers are supported in the carrier-neutral Fortress SF1 Meet-Me-Room, offering multiple connectivity options (lit and dark fiber) through four diverse entry points: Brannan Street, De Boom Street, Federal Street, and 2nd Street. The building hosts providers such as Airespring, AT&T (Legacy TCA & SBC), CenturyLink (Legacy tw telecom & Level 3 Communications), Cogent, Comcast, Inteliquent, Sprint Communications, TPx Communications, Verizon (Legacy XO Communications & MCImetro), and Zayo (Legacy Abovenet Communications, opticAccess & ELI). Additionally, wireless carriers AT&T Wireless (4G/5G) and Verizon Wireless (4G LTE/5G) are present.

The facility also supports direct Cloud onboarding to 11 Great Oaks (Equinix SV1) via several SDN networks and dark fiber options. Compliance certifications for Fortress SF1 include SOC 2 Type II, PCI DSS SAQ D (Service Providers) Attestation of Compliance, HIPAA Business Associate Compliance Assessment, and FISMA NIST 800-53-v4 for the years 2018 and 2019.
